NEW AERATION SYSTEM LAUNCHED

Mistral Aeration, a new aeration system that promises speedier composting with less odours has been trialled with great success in Peterborough.

The fundamental elements to successful composting are enhanced using the aeration system developed by composting company, Covered Systems Limited. It also eliminates some of the problems normally associated with ground or above ground compost aeration systems, by using a simple yet innovative design to increase air circulation, speeding up the composting process and eliminating odours.

New Composting site in Suffolk

A new, 26000 tonne per annum in-vessel composting site at Lackford near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, has recently started receiving meat excluded catering waste from kerbside collections within the Suffolk districts of St Edmundsbury District Council and Forest Heath District Council. This DEFRA funded project for Suffolk County Council and Viridor Waste Management involved a new company designing the in-vessel system.

Mid UK Recycling Ltd
whose Head Office at Caythorpe in Lincolnshire is a large privately owned waste contractor, recycling mixed recyclables, glass, agricultural wastes, metals, C& D waste, woodwaste and greenwaste. The composting operation at the Caythorpe site handles around 15000 tonnes per annum of civic amenity garden waste and kerbside garden waste from Lincolnshire County Council.

SEBC go top

Recently released recycling and composting figures by the Government for the year 2004/5, show that Suffolk Local Authority St Edmundsbury Borough Council (SEBC) has achieved the top spot with a recycling rate of 50.6% and was the only Local Authority to recycle over half of its waste arisings. The neighbouring Authority Forest Heath District council cam e second with 48%.
